I was walking in from the gym one springtime morning, when I stopped and looked around at our garden. Sure, I walk pass our beautiful english garden everyday, but this time it really struck me just how incredibly beautiful it is. Maybe the perfume of our bushy pink roses put me in a trance – the mere sight of them makes my heart soar, or maybe it’s because the heavy rains that we had this winter made our grass the perfect shade of green, maybe it’s because I just love flowers. As I admired the beauty all around me I thought, I’d love to share this view with my girlfriends! And then an idea was born. Why not have a Garden Party to blend a few of my favorite things: flowers, friends, food & wine! I picked a date, slipped an invitation in the mail ( I guess I’m old fashioned), and started party planning. I invited 23 of my favorite bloggers over for a true “ladies who lunch” moment on a Tuesday afternoon, and as we sipped wine, giggled and snapped insta stories, we basked in the glow of springs beauty all around us. And my garden didn’t disappoint, I kept a watchful eye on our wall of roses for a week hoping that they would finally bloom and they did! It was the final piece to a perfect garden party puzzle.
For food I decided to keep things light and healthy and Lemonade LA was just the restaurant for the job! I opted to have them cater the event instead of cooking the food myself. On the menu? Citrus Poached Salmon, Roasted Broccoli, Snap Peas & Edamame and Curried Cauliflower. The menu offered a mixture of vegetarian and vegan options, to suit everyone’s dietary needs. Making the decision not to cook allowed me more time to focus on every bloggers favorite thing – the decor! My assistant Jazmyne and I worked for most of the morning to get the tables set just right, and since I worked on the flower arrangements over the weekend, all that was left to do was dress the tables with plates, chargers and glassware. Speaking of flowers, I felt like a garden party NEEDED a flower wall so, we built one! The 6ft tall wall complete with pink roses and hydrangeas served as the perfect backdrop for the dessert table. On tap we had a selection of cold-pressed lemonades (lavender was my favorite!) and a variety of red and white wine from Wines of Sicily. The only thing that could make the garden views even sweeter was the sound of beautiful music streaming in. My piano teacher, Matthew (I’ve been taking lessons since January!) played a mixture of classical and contemporary songs that added an extra touch of elegance while we mingled and sipped our wine.
I know it seems silly to throw a party to celebrate your garden, but spring is my favorite time of year and sometimes, I like to slow down and appreciate all of the beauty that Mother Nature has given us. I also love any opportunity to surround myself with hard working women who support and inspire each other. I had so much fun that I think I’ll have to make my Garden Party and annual event! I’m already looking forward to next year!
