The past year has been unpredictable to say the least. Our day-to-day routines have changed drastically, and while staying home all day may seem like a walk in the park, I found that it was causing me more stress than usual. There’s something about the unknown that has a way of making us lose sleep at night. What will tomorrow bring? Will things get better? Will they worsen?

Even before the pandemic, I would sometimes struggle to get to bed, because my to-do list for the next day would race through my head on an endless loop. Causing me to just want to jump out of bed and “tackle in now”. But there’s something to be said for a good night’s sleep. When I get a full 8 hours of sleep, I wake up feeling refreshed and ready to take on the day. It improves my mood, my productivity and my energy level. So that’s when I decided to needed to create a fool proof sleep routine that would lull me to bed even on those sleepless nights. Since March is Sleep Awareness Month I wanted to share my tips for a good night’s sleep any day, based of Natrol’s® custom “Hit the Sack” Pack and sleep tips reccomended by Dr. Mike Dow and Bachelor star Jason Tartick!

Tip: 1 Go to bed around the same time every night. I always shut down the house and head up to my bedroom around 9:45 or 10:00. This gives me plenty of time to take off my makeup, apply my favorite skincare products and get in bed.

Tip 2: Once I’m in bed, I don’t touch my phone or the tv remote. I put my phone on the charger, switch it to “Do not Disturb”, and leave it alone until morning. The bed has become my sanctuary, almost like a calm little oasis. I make it a place for rest and relaxation. Not a place where I answer emails or watch TV. This has helped my brain to realize that it’s time to wind down and relax. Instead of scrolling on Instagram, or checking out the news for the day, I prefer to read a book for 30 minutes or so. Reading allows me to clear my brain from the day-to-day stresses and then I can just focus on the cute love story or gripping mystery that I’m currently engrossed in.

Tip 3: Before I pick up my book, I take two of Natrol’s Melatonin 10 mg  gummies on those nights when I still feel sleepless. The gummies typically take 20-30 minutes to kick in, so that gives me just enough time for some light reading. Natrol’s Gummies are all natural and are completely drug-free. They use Melatonin, which is naturally produced in our body, to help guide our sleep-wake cycle. They also help me to have better quality sleep. I don’t find myself counting sheep to doze off, or waking up in the middle of the night tossing and turning. And when I do, I turn to Natrol’s 3 a.m. Melatonin formula to help me those occasional middle-of-the-night wakeups. I also love that they are gluten free and don’t contain any artificial flavors or sweeteners.

Tip 4: A warm cup of chamomile tea always makes me feel so cozy before bedtime, especially in the winter months when climbing into bed is so cold and often sends a shiver down my spine!

Tip 5: When I want a real at-home spa experience, I spray a little bit of lavender or eucalyptus pillow spray on my pillows. The aromatherapy surrounds me and always gives me the sweetest of dreams.

These five tips have proven to be so helpful over the past year, and I am so happy to finally have consistently good sleep. If you’re having trouble getting to bed, I highly recommend creating a sleep routine that works for you and incorporating Natrol’s Melatonin supplements into your nighttime routine to help with occasional sleeplessness.
